Prednisone

You have received a prescription for Prednisone.  This information sheet you are receiving is to inform you about the action, dosage and side effects of the medication prescribed.  If you have any questions regarding your medication please contact the office.

PURPOSE/ACTION:  Prednisone is a steroid with potent anti-inflammatory effects.  This will reduce swelling within the inner ear structures and may improve the hearing, balance or facial function.

DOSAGE:  Variable depending upon your condition.  Take after meals.

SIDE EFFECTS:  

  • Stomach upset
  • Insomnia
  • Hyperactivity
  • Weight Gain

NOTES: 

  1. Notify your physician of you have diabetes or glaucoma, ulcerative colitis or stomach ulcers.
  2. Use a liquid antacid while on prednisone.
  3. Do not get any vaccinations while on Prednisone.
  4. Contact the office for: muscle weakness, vomiting, vertigo or excessive edema
