Dehydration Test

This test was designed to determine the effect that urea / glycerol may have on your hearing. We will begin by administering a baseline hearing test. You will than be asked to drink some bittersweet liquid. You will than have one hearing test per hour post-ingestion to determine of the hearing has changed.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Light breakfast (i.e. tea and toast).
2. No alcohol 24 hours prior to the test.
3. No diuretic or water pill for two days prior to the test.
4. No low salt diet two days prior to the test.
5. Please tell us if you have diabetes, liver, renal or cardiac problems.

TEMPORARY SIDE EFFECTS:

Nausea, headache, thirst, diarrhea, dizziness, vomiting, and excessive urination. These side effects occur infrequently.

PROCEDURE:

1. Baseline hearing test.
2. Drink urea/glycerol solution.
3. Hearing test every hour for three hours.
4. Nothing to eat, drink, or smoke during the test.

NOTE: Please notify our office at (303)783-9330 at least 24 hours in advance if a cancellation is necessary. Failure to do so will result in a $100.00 charge. Please keep in mind that our schedule is booked approximately 2-3 weeks in advance.
